What The Hills?!? Holly Montag Joins Team Kristin

Excuse Lauren Conrad if she can't stand up straight these days. The newly retired reality star is still pulling that knife out of her back.

In an interview with E! News, Holly Montag showed serious love for new co-star Kristin Cavallari.

"I think Kristin's openness is going to be far more entertaining than anything Lauren had to offer," Holly said. "Lauren's always been very conservative, which is good for her values, but Kristin just wants to put everything on the line because she thinks reality is real. Kristin doesn't hide anything. She's seriously the most real girl you'll meet in reality television."

Isn't that like being the tallest person at a midget convention?

Holly Montag PicThe Fabulous Lauren Conrad

Holly Montag admires Kristin Cavallari for being "real." We admire Montag if she was able to keep a straight face while making that statement.

Despite implying that LC is fake, Holly wishes nothing but the best for her pal:

"I'm happy she's done with this. Now, that she's out if it, I have no doubt she'll be a successful designer. She's so talented and driven."

Meanwhile, Stacie Hall - the bartender that's dating Frankie Delgado - has already partied with Kristin.

"Kristin's a really fun, outgoing person, and I think we're going to have a great time continuing to film," Stacie said. "Lauren is a good, good girl, but Kristin is more outgoing and crazy."

Spears sued for running over photog's foot

A former TMZ photographer sued Britney Spears on Friday over an incident in which his foot was run over.

Ricardo Mendoza filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles on Friday against her, claiming that Spears negligently operated her car and committed assault and battery when she ran over his foot in Beverly Hills on Oct. 18, 2007.

Several media outlets picked up footage of the incident, including celebrity gossip site TMZ, where Mendoza worked at the time.

TMZ, which first reported the lawsuit, auctioned off his tire-stained sock and donated the proceeds to charity.

Mendoza is also suing a pair of Spears' companies, claiming their agents should have known that Spears wasn't capable of properly driving the vehicle.

The incident happened during a turbulent period for Spears, who hours earlier had lost custody of her two sons. The singer, whose most recent album is "Circus," has since regained visitation rights.

Her father, Jamie, has maintained control of the 27-year-old Spears' personal and financial affairs since February 2008.

Spears was accused of running over another photographer's foot a month after the incident involving Mendoza, but prosecutors said in that incident it was more the photographer's fault. They declined to press charges.

An e-mail message sent to Spears' publicist seeking comment was not immediately returned Friday.

User Post: Sunscreen Sense

Tis the season to lather up...here's all you need to know about protecting your skin this summer
Susan Crandell, BettyConfidential.com

There's not a woman in America who doesn't know the perils of tanning (skin cancer, wrinkles, sun spots) - and precious few who aren't still tempted to tan. If you crave a summery glow, use a fake tanner (with subtler shadings, they no longer make you look like a hot dog) and slather on the sunscreen whenever you're outdoors. And remember, even if you have darker skin naturally, you still need sunscreen to protect against skin cancer.

Checklist for Sunscreens

UVA/UVB Protection. UVA rays cause wrinkles, freckles and spots. UVB rays cause sunburn. Both can cause skin cancer. Sunscreens work by absorbing, reflecting or scattering these rays, using ingredients such as zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and mexoryl, which provide protection against both types. Check the ingredients list or look for sunscreens labeled "broad spectrum UVA/UVB."

SPF. Sun Protection Factor numbers rise from 4 up into the stratosphere. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that a 30 sunscreen will allow you to stay in the sun twice as long. In reality, SPR 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays; SPF 30 blocks 97%. (Ratings for UVA protection are due out this summer.) Some skin professionals recommend 15 or above, but why not go for the gold and get a 30 SPF screen.

Application. The classic advice from the American Academy of Dermatology is a full ounce (think shot glass) for a whole-body application. That's a lot of sunscreen, so apply what you think you need, and then a whole bunch more. If you're using one of the new spray-on screens, make sure you can see it glistening all over your skin, that you haven't left any dry spots. Ideally, apply half an hour before you go outdoors.

Sweating, swimming and rubbing yourself dry afterward are just a few of the things that can cut into your protection. If you're engaging in outdoor activities, look for "water-resistant" (40 minutes staying power) or "very water-resistant" (80 minutes).

Reapply sunscreen every two hours, even on cloudy or hazy days and even under a shirt (a typical white T-shirt has a measly SPF of 3). And don't forget your UVA/UVB protection sunglasses too; these rays can damage the cornea and contribute to the development of cataracts.

5 Things Keeping You From a Flatter Stomach

One thousand crunches a day? Don’t waste your time. Instead, the best way to get a flatter stomach involves a few clever changes to your diet and workout…and about 970 fewer sit-ups.

By Jenny Bailly

The quest for flat abs knows no shame (or too much indolence). For proof, behold the Abs in a Box kit. It contains semipermanent body stain, eight shadow and highlighting powders, and a booklet explaining how to use the above to create a six-pack—all for $69. Which would be a bargain if those abs were real. But attaining flat abs isn’t a matter of painting by numbers—or even of executing a mind-numbing series of crunches. Consider this: Stomach flab is easier to lose than the padding on your butt and thighs; commit to shedding a few pounds, and the ones around your waist disappear first. Once they’re gone, a judicious mix of ab moves can carve out smooth, visible muscles over time—and not just for the genetically preprogrammed. Here, five ways to create your own (genuine) ab masterpiece.

Problem: You have too much fat all over.

You could have Jessica Alba’s muscle structure and nothing to show for it if you’re carrying around extra pounds. “No one’s ever going to see those strong muscles as long as a layer of fat sits on top of them,” says personal trainer Gunnar Peterson, who works with Jennifer Lopez and Gisele Bundchen. Interval training is the most effective way to exercise. A study in the International Journal of Obesity found that women who put in 20 minutes on a stationary bike three times a week—but alternated 8-second bursts of speedy pedaling with 12-second rest periods— trimmed more from their midsections over 15 weeks than those who cycled at a slower, but steady, pace for 40 minutes. Researchers believe that interval training triggers the body to release adrenaline, a hormone that tells the body to burn stored fat—which is often found in the stomach area.

5 weight-loss tips you've never heard before

Problem: You’re eating the wrong food

Without the right diet, even the most rigorous cardio regimen is useless. “That means cutting calories,” says Susan B. Roberts, a professor of nutrition and psychiatry at Tufts University in Boston and author of The Instinct Diet (Workman Publishing Company). And there are tricks that help, too. Drinking coffee—when part of a weight-loss diet—may also trim the stomach slightly, and the caffeine may speed up the metabolism. Roberts suggests one to three cups of coffee a day.

Dairy’s role in weight loss is controversial (some studies have shown a strong connection; others haven’t). On the pro side: In a University of Tennessee study, overweight adults on a low-calorie diet who had 1,100 milligrams of calcium daily lost 81 percent more stomach fat than those who got only 400 to 500 milligrams of calcium per day. Getting three daily servings of dairy is a reasonable goal, says Michael B. Zemel, director of the Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee.

What to avoid? White, starchy carbohydrates top the list. People who chose white bread over whole grains gained about half an inch around the middle every year, according to a study from the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University.

Eating more of these foods will help you shed pounds.

Problem: You’re doing the wrong moves

“Crunches only work the superficial muscles at the front of your torso,” says Shawn McCormack, director of and head instructor at the Body, a Manhattan fitness studio. “They don’t do anything for the muscles that run around the entire core of your body like a corset, or the oblique muscles along your sides.” These are the muscles that act like your body’s own Spanx, drawing your midsection up and in. One of the best ways to strengthen them is by holding a simple plank position. For an extra challenge, lift your hips up an inch or two and then move them back.

Pilates moves are powerful ab sculptors, says Michele Olson, professor of exercise physiology at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama. In a study pitting mat-based Pilates moves against crunches, the Pilates exercises were all more effective on the abs than crunches were. Crunches can still be one part of your routine, but doing them ad nauseam is an exercise in futility. Two to five sets of 15 to 20 reps are plenty.

Problem: You only use your abdominal muscles rarely

Whether you’re on the treadmill or doing push-ups, your navel should feel like it’s being pulled toward your spine as your ribs drop slightly toward your pelvis. “Breathing deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth, is the best way to keep your core muscles contracted and engaged in any workout,” says Laurie Cole, an instructor at SoulCycle, a cycling studio in New York City. And it should extend beyond the gym. “My abs are always activated,” says personal trainer Kacy Duke. This not only strengthens the torso over time but also improves posture, which instantly minimizes bulges.

7 fitness tips from one of Hollywood's hottest celebrity trainers.

Problem: Your genes aren’t solely to blame.

Fat distribution is at least 30 percent—maybe as much as 60 percent—determined by genetics. But biology isn’t necessarily destiny. Though scientists have identified specific genes that affect the propensity to store fat around the middle or in the hips and thighs, any gene pool can be overcome. “You’ll probably have to do more work to maintain a flat stomach, but biology doesn’t rule how you exercise or what you eat,” says Olson.

Gisele Bundchen: Not Pregnant

It's okay, guys. You can go back to thinking that Tom Brady has never Gisele Bundchen naked.

Now that the star quarterback has shot down rumors that his wife is pregnant, we can stop hating the guy. After all, three Super Bowl titles and the eternal affection of one of the world's greatest sports cities is enough.

Does Brady really need to remind us that he goes home and nails Gisele every night, as well?!?

When reporters asked the New England Patriots star about the pregnancy rumors this week, Brady shook his head and said, "No." He added that "one is enough," referring to his son, John, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.

Britney Spears Forgets Time of the Month

Embattled music superstar Britney Spears appears to have gotten her $h!t together of late, at least in comparison to the Lost Years of 2005-2007.

Embarking on a successful worldwide Circus tour, staying out of the psych ward and taking the kids on vacation in the Bahamas - life's going well.

There are still glimmers of the crazy, however - and let's just this incident was the opposite of her famous concert wardrobe malfunction from April.

See where we're going with this? Read on ...

The celebrity recently sat down for an Elle magazine shoot, a New York Post spy says, and it was a big mess. Literally. According to the report:

"They dressed her in all these beautiful couture clothes - and, well, let's just say she forgot what time of the month it was. It wasn't pretty."

That is so gross. Yet we are not entirely shocked.

If we knew, waking up this morning, that there would be a story going around about a star menstruating on clothes during a photo shoot, Britney Spears definitely would have been our first guess. We would also have called in sick.

On the flip side, at least she didn't let her dog defecate on the clothes, as she did at an OK! Magazine shoot last year. At least we assume not.

Britney Spears' family tour

Britney Spears has been taking parenting advice from Madonna.

The 'Toxic' singer has revealed she consulted her idol - who raises three children - when deciding whether or not to take her young sons, Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, on tour with her.

A sourcesaid: "Madonna gave Britney some great advice about her kids.

Madonna told her, 'Keep them close when you're on the road. I have always taken my kids on the road with me. It's a life they learn to accept, as long as they're with their mom. You want to look back on those years and know they are with you. They'll look back on these years too and they'll be very glad to have those memories.' "

Britney - who is accompanied on her 'Britney Spears Presents the Circus' tour by her sons and ex-husband Kevin Federline, who has primary custody of the children - agreed with her mentor's view and hopes them seeing what she does first-hand will impress them.

Britney, 27, said: "I do think it's all about history. What we as mothers are doing is creating this history with our kids that we can look back on and say, 'Yeah, that was hard. But it was fun because we did it together.' When they're adults I want my kids to say, 'Wow, my mom was working hard but she was there for us.' "

However, there are some parts of her show which the 'Womanizer' star won't allow her boys to see.

An insider explained to Britain's Hello! magazine: "She wants them around all the time. Except maybe not for the parts of the show she thinks are too suggestive. A couple of times along the way Britney's mother Lynne has taken the boys out of the arena when the show gets a little outrageous."

Health Risks Associated With Bigger Waistlines

Researchers continue to find evidence that a bigger waistline is a predictor of poor health -- especially poor heart health. However, it's shocking how much a bigger waistline can affect your entire body's health, literally from head to toe. If there's one part of your body to focus on keeping in fighting shape, it's your midsection. Here’s a roundup of recent findings, all of which indicate the health risks associated with bigger waistlines.

Heart failure
A recent study suggests that and bigger waistline is a setup for heart failure in midlife and beyond. Even when body mass index (BMI) is normal, a bigger waist can lead to poor heart health. The study showed that men with a normal BMI of 25 had a 16% increased risk of developing heart failure from a 3.94-inch increase in waist size. The study included 43,487 men aged 45 to 79. Add more body weight and the risk increases to 18%. Those are health risks associated with bigger waistlines we can live without.

Restless leg syndrome
Restless Leg Syndrome affects approximately 5% to 10% of the U.S. population with symptoms ranging from consistent discomfort to major problems sleeping. A study published in the April 7, 2009, print issue of Neurology, revealed that people with bigger waistlines are more likely to experience restless leg syndrome. Lack of sleep in turn leads to poor performance and an overall decrease in one’s quality of life. Some research also suggests that short sleep duration leads to more weight gain, further increasing the cascade of health risks associated with bigger waistlines.
Periodontal disease

Another health risk associated with bigger waistlines is periodontal disease, which involves inflammation of the tissue around your teeth. Investigators from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Puerto Rico report that men with waist circumference of 40 inches, compared to men with waist size less than 40 inches, had a 19% increased risk of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is associated with increased risk of poor health from systemic inflammation that also increases heart disease and diabetes risk -- and possibly cancer -- again showing the link between health risks and bigger waists.

Decreased lung function
A study published in the March 2009 issue of the American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine shows that a bigger waistline leads to decreased lung function, regardless of smoking history, gender, BMI, or other complicating factors. Paul Enright, M.D., of the University of Arizona, said in an accompanying editorial to the study, "[This] study demonstrated that only mild abdominal adiposity, even with a normal body mass index (BMI), is associated with lower FVC” (forced expiratory vital capacity).

Higher mortality
The New England Journal of Medicine published the results of a wide European study from November 2008, showing that the risk of premature death is also linked to a bigger waistline. For each 1.94-inch increase in waist circumference, mortality risk increased by 17% in men. It really adds up: Men whose waist size was 47.2 inches had double the risk of early death. Each 0.1 unit higher waist-to-hip ratio was related to a 34% higher mortality risk in men.

Migraine headaches
Bigger waistlines also mean more chance of suffering from migraines, which become more common depending on the way your body fat is distributed. Bigger waist size, even without overall obesity, increased the risk of severe headache or migraine in a study of 22,211 people. Twenty percent of men with abdominal obesity, aged 20 to 55, reported migraine headaches, compared to 16% of men who had smaller waists, in a study published in February 2009. Because of the study, author, B. Lee Peterlin, D.O., of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, suggests: “Losing weight in the stomach area may be beneficial for younger people who experience migraine.”

waistline warning
Athletes who gain weight for a competitive advantage might even be setting themselves up for later health risks linked to bigger waist size. Jackie Buell, director of sports nutrition at Ohio State University said: "We understand these athletes want to be big, but they can't assume all their weight gain is lean mass just because they're lifting weights and taking protein supplements.”

Don’t be surprised if your doctor measures your waist as part of your regular checkup. Keeping a slimmer waistline can ensure better overall health, regardless of BMI. Studies continue to show multiple health risks associated with having a bigger waistline.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" returning to big screen (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen, courtesy of the director of the original movie.

"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but director Fran Rubel Kuzui is working on a relaunch with Vertigo Entertainment, which specializes in English-language remakes of Asian films, such as "The Grudge" and "The Departed."

While Whedon is the person most associated with the "Buffy" franchise, Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband Kaz put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.

Kuzui later helped bring back Whedon to make the TV series, which began its successful run on the WB in 1997. She received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Kuzui and Vertigo are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows the filmmakers to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.

The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him. Speaking from Tokyo, Fran Kuzui said she is constantly approached not only about sequels but theater, video games and foreign remakes for "Buffy." When Vertigo's Roy Lee contacted them, they were intrigued.

"It was Roy's interest in taking Buffy into a new place that grabbed us," she said. "It was based on our respect for what he does, and his particular sensitivity to Asian filmmakers, that we wanted to work with him."

Kuzui, who is preparing to direct a movie in Japan in the fall, added: "Everything has its moment. Every movie takes on a life at some point, and this seems like the moment to do this."

Deborah Gibson

For more than 20 years, Deborah Gibson has proven she’s an entertainer of immeasurable talent. From singer, songwriter and musician to actor and dancer, she embodies what it truly means to be an entertainer.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the celebrated singer started her personal love affair with music at the ripe age of two and a half. “I’d put my ear to the speaker in my bedroom and run back to the piano and play — left and right hands.” Known the world over as “the Original Pop Princess”, Deborah has come a long way from her early days of classical music training.

Gibson exploded on the pop music scene at the tender age of 16. A music prodigy, she quickly became the youngest person ever to write, produce and perform a number one single, (”Foolish Beat”), a record she still holds today in the Guinness Book of World Records. To date, Gibson has sold more than 16 million albums worldwide.

Refusing to simply ride out the wave of her initial success, Deborah has since invested more than 20 years into the music industry. Releasing a string of well-received albums — Out of the Blue - 1987, Electric Youth - 1989, Anything is Possible - 1990, Body Mind Soul - 1993, Think With Your Heart - 1995, Deborah - 1996, M.Y.O.B - 2001, Colored Lights - 2003 as well as a greatest hits collection, Deborah has successfully worked the music industry from all angles. in 1988 Deborah co-hosted Nickelodeon’s first ever “Kids’ Choice Awards” with Tony Danza.

After conquering the pop world, she set her sights on the theater. Gibson took a star turn in the Broadway production of “Les Miserables” as Eponine. She broke box office records in the London West End production of “Grease” as Sandy, and then took the stage in the U.S. Broadway tours of “Grease” and “FunnyGirl” playing Rizzo and Fanny Brice. Gibson also wowed critics as Belle in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” Gypsy Rose Lee in “Gypsy,” The Narrator in the national tour of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Cinderella in the national production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,“Velma Kelly in “Chicago,” and Sally Bowles in the Broadway revival of “Cabaret.”

Continuing to dazzle with entertainment magic, Gibson bridged the gap between Pop Music and Broadway with her one-woman show “Pop Goes Broadway.” She brings the best of both worlds to the stage singing some of her biggest pop hits and reprising her starring roles on Broadway. Critics agreed “‘Pop Goes Broadway’ is the best show Atlantic City has seen in quite some time…it’s totally entertaining” during her three-week engagement in May 2008 at The Concert Venue at Harrah’s. Phil Roura of the New York Daily News said, “she has mastered her craft to the point where she just doesn’t perform a song - she embraces it and delivers it with her own special stamp of approval.”

Gibson recently returned to her Broadway roots for a successful run of “The King and I.” Steven Stanely of StageSceneLA said, “From the moment this Broadway vet steps onto the stage, there is magic in the air, and no one can doubt that this Anna will enchant the King from their first meeting.” Les Spindle of Backstage said, “Gibson exudes grace and warmth as the patient but determined Anna. She brings renewed luster to beloved songs such as “Hello Young Lovers,” finding the passion in Rodger’s eloquent lyrics and Hammerstein’s lush melodies.” Cary Ginell said, “Utilizing a meticulously cultivated British accent, Gibson is excellent in her portrayal of Anna.” Gibson is now the composer and co-lyricist on a new musical in pre-production for Broadway: “The Flunky”, written by Jimmy Van Patten.
