Rachel Philippona, Miss Alabama USA 2009, competes for the title of Miss USA 2009 during the 58th annual Miss USA competition.
The 2009 Miss USA Pageant will be aired on NBC network April 19, in Las Vegas, Nev. and Altus’ own Lauren Lunday will be competing as Miss Oklahoma.
Lauren was crowned Miss Altus in 2007 and Miss Oklahoma earlier this year.
She is the daughter of Dr. Jeff Lunday and Glenna Lunday, and is a second year dental student at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.

Lauren is currently serving as treasurer for her dental class, media spokesperson, and representative for the academic appeals board. She was recently inducted into Sigma Delta Honor Fraternity and serves as an officer, is a Heritage Scholar, and a Kappa Foundation Scholar.
Lauren is a 2006 graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-Medical Sciences. While there she was active in Crimson Club, President’s Leadership Class, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Mortar Board, “Brain Awareness Week,” and was co-founder of the University’s Neuroscience Club. She worked on a neuroscience research team and her research was nationally published in the neuroscience magazine, Nature. She received the President’s Award for “Outstanding Top Ten Students,” Big Woman on Campus Award, David Burr PLC Mentor, PACE Award, and was an Arts and Science Leadership Scholar. Lauren was the 2007 Miss Altus and was Runner-up in the Miss Oklahoma Pageant that year. She is a 2002 graduate of Altus High School where she was Salutatorian, Dance Team Captain, and President of Kay Club.
